Printing Guide & Care of Digital Negatives
Thank you for purchasing high resolution digital negatives from Elizabeth Glass Photography. The photographer retains copyright of all the images purchased. Your purchase includes permission to make unlimited copies and/or reprints of these images for personal use and distribution. You may not use any of these images for commercial, editorial, or competition purposes, without the express written permission from the photographer.
Please make at least one copy of this cd right away, and store it in a safe and secure location for archival purposes. We recommend that you save one copy at a location other than your home, in case of fire or other tragedy. Please also remember to make additional copies every year or so as technology evolves over time.
Your digital files have been saved with the sRGB color profile in Adobe Photoshop, in the jpeg format. This is the color profile and format most photo labs use. Please choose your lab with care, as this decision will strongly effect the visual quality of your printed portraits. We highly recommend that you have your images printed at www.Mpix.com. At Mpix you can order high quality, professionally printed portraits at reasonable prices, online from the comfort of your home. They will deliver your finished portraits right to your door.
Most labs offer a choice between matte and glossy finishes. We feel that the matte finish looks much better for portraits. A matte finish also shows finger prints and smudges much less than a gloss finish. At Mpix you can also have your portraits sprayed with a clear, protective coating to further protect your prints from sunlight, dust, and smudges.
Our computer monitors are calibrated for the printing labs that we use. If you have the same digital file printed at several different labs, you will have several slightly (and sometimes severely) different prints in regards to quality, color, density, or cropping. Elizabeth Glass Photography is not responsible for the quality, color, density, or cropping of prints produced by the lab you choose. Any questions regarding any quality of the prints and enlargements reproduced from these files should be directed to the lab you have chosen.
It is important that you choose a photo lab with ordering software that allows you to see and choose how each of your images will be cropped. Automated cropping may remove part of the image you don’t want removed. All portraits do not look good at all cropping ratios. With custom cropping you can see which portrait sizes and ratios look best for each image, before it is printed. Many of the digital files you have purchased are uncropped, and left with extra space around the subject. This allows you to have each image custom cropped into several different portrait sizes for printing. When cropping, please remember to leave a little extra space around the edges of your portrait subject, because the edges of the photo will be hidden later if the portrait is matted or framed.
We hope you enjoy your images by Elizabeth Glass Photography for many years to come. Please don’t hesitate to give me a call if you have any questions.
